History
After a decline in interest for British skiers to flock to Austria for their holidays, France soon became the number one destination. An untapped Valley above Les Allues, lead Scotsman Peter Lindsay and French Skier Emile Allias to create a French ski resort. Between 1938 and 1941, Lindsay had already overseen the installation of the first ski lift, construction of hotels and chalets before World War II stalled the construction and plans.
Meribel underwent a rejuvenation following its hosting of the 1992 Winter Olympics of Ice Hockey and Women's alpine skiing. It was important to retain the traditional alpine architecture and aesthetics ensuring Meribel remains one of the most popular ski destinations in Europe.
